I am sure we all know about the popular story of Snow White and the seven dwarfs. A lovely story it is, of how a little princess was more beautiful than the Queen. The Queen wanted to be the most beautiful in the kingdom, well she always was, until Snow White. She had a mirror that showed the most beautiful person in the Kingdom. She always said “Mirror Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” And the mirror always showed her who the most beautiful person was. Am not here to tell you the story, but I can tell you something: It was a happy ending like all other fairy tale stories 🙂 . From this tale we shall derive what we are learning on the Victory Path today, especially from the saying “Mirror Mirror on the Wall!”

A mirror simply reflects your image back to you. Imagine for a second, that you live for a year without a mirror or no way to see your reflection, even in water. You’ll feel a little unsure about yourself, even when you think you’ve done your best. Because seeing your reflection gives you confidence about how you look, and it lets you know how you truly are. The mirror is very sincere except if it’s broken. A broken mirror doesn’t show you your whole self; it shows you your partial reflection in pieces. I love my reflection, and I like having mirrors around. I know people that spend a LOT of time in front of the mirror. You know what I mean 😉

What would you think of a higher technological advancement of mirrors? A mirror that shows you what you look like, and then shows you what you should look like? Like for our ladies, imagine that right after having your bath, you look into the mirror and the mirror shows you how you should look, a far different picture from your current state. Then you can upgrade your current appearance to look just like the mirror predicted, until you look perfect. Nice technology right? Am sure some of you can’t wait to have it, even the guys too.

If I told you that the mirror technology actually exists, would you believe me? Many people have this mirror and don’t even know it has this function. It’s like having a computer that you don’t know can browse the internet, and all you use it to do is type documents. Some of you reading this have this special mirror in your house. Meanwhile, many other people have access to buy this mirror, but they don’t believe in this mirror or its ability. Am sure the question on your mind is I have mirrors, how can I recognize the hi-tech mirror? Don’t run to the bathrooms mirror or to your dressing mirror just yet 🙂 .

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this mirror doesn’t particularly reflect your reflection as the normal mirror does. It shows you another kind of reflection. It reflects your true self to you, it brings to life all the hidden riches and treasures in you. Ehrm, so this mirror is quite different. This mirror is the Bible! The Bible is the word of God. The mirror of truth.

22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. James 1:22 (ESV)

The Bible asks a good question here.. “Who looks in a glass and forgets the kind of man he was?” You are, I am the answer to the who question! We all remember what we look like while we look at the mirror. A very few percentage of people can remember what they looked like, because the image has left their minds. Even after looking into the mirror, it’s still easy to believe someone that tells you that there is a white patch on your face. We should have more people saying I know what I looked like in the mirror, I don’t have a white patch on my face. If the mirror is the word of God, then the truth is we also don’t remember what the word says about us the moment we drop it. So we can easily believe what the world says we are not. What’s bad if we carry our mirror everywhere until we are sure we can retain our image in our minds without the mirror? There is a need to let the mirror be our truthful interpreter. You can’t afford to forget what kind of man or woman that the word of God says you are. You just can’t!

Bible-007

We are like a man that forgets our image in a mirror when we don’t do what the word of God says concerning us. It is actually disobedience to the word of God. I believe our generation is in greater trouble because of the level of knowledge that is freely shared in our time. We have more to know, we know a lot already, and yet many of us do less. We have a duty to do what we know! The mirror has a lot to show us, we must be ready to follow the mirrors instructions. Why should you look into the mirror in the first place, if you don’t intend make changes based on what it shows you, so has to make your current appearance and performance better? Improve on yourself and remember how you look in the mirror of the word of God. You’ll look awesome everyday of your life.

25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. Jam 1:25 (ESV)

But whoever looks into the law of liberty that is this mirror, which is the word of God is free. Any experience you have with the word helps you become what it talks about. The word of God has said a lot about you already. When the word of God says you are blessed, then it means you are really blessed, and there is the innate power it contains that’ll actually make you blessed. The Bible is the mirror that shows you who you should be even before you become it. You may just have decided to stop sin, but the word of God is your helper, it’ll show you how to go about it. Paul commended us unto the Word of God, because it can build us up and give us an inheritance amongst the saints. All you’ll ever be, is in the Word of God, when the word becomes life to you, you’ll love the life. So our words should be ‘Mirror Mirror on the wall, show me who I am, and who I am to be.’ And you can trust the mirror of God’s word to truthfully show you who you are, just like your natural mirror would. If you can persevere and follow the word of God, you’ll be blessed.

The Bible says ‘The letter kills but the spirit gives life.’ The spirit is what helps you become what you see in the word of God. The spirit empowers, strengthens, emboldens, makes better, enriches you with all the word of God talks about. So what does the Bible say about you? When you believe the word of God, and you obey, then you become what it talks about.

Now we know the mirror is the word of God, so where is the wall? This is the transition..

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Heb 8:10 (ESV)

scripture-wall

The wall is actually in our hearts. When we are transformed, the transformation is kept and stored on the walls of our hearts. The wall of your heart now actually shows truly what you’ve gotten out of the word of God. Some people’s walls are empty, because there is nothing stored there. What’s on the wall of your heart that you have received from the mirror of the word? God wants to write his words in your heart, that is, without the mirror, you have a wall filled with his word. Will you open up for God to write his words upon the walls of your heart? Will you give the mirror access to your wall, that it may be filled with the words and truths of God? It’s high time we did! For as many as want to know God more and hear his voice, we need to know his word more. I love looking into the mirror, and love the words written by God on the walls of my heart. I am sure you’ll do too when you begin to look into this mirror.. You are changed. Anytime you look into the normal mirror, remember there is a greater mirror.. Made by God for you 🙂

“Mirror Mirror on the Wall, show me who I am, and who I am to become…”
