This is the most difficult reality I have probably had to come to in my entire life. I have known my fiancee for years, she is the most trustworthy, honest, accountable and virtuous woman I have ever met in the course of my entire life. She’s the fast forward to the lacking woman, and the symbol of perfection, its a little wonder that I decided to court her and propose to her too. I respect her for who she is and I value her too, she is so special to me. Unlike many other relationships around us, we have never slept together, and from the start she always told me she was a virgin. I trusted her, she never gave me a reason to doubt her character once. I love her with all my heart. She is the sun that lights up my world.
I’m not saying that she doesn’t have her shortcomings, but she is very close to all she should be. Well known in church and even in the society as one who is unique and upright. She has been used severally as a role model to younger women. You can’t imagine the joy of just being her fiance, and the utter joy of the prospect of getting , married to her. The day I proposed was the happiest day of my life. If I hadn’t done anything right all my life, I know I did that one right, no mistake about it. We had been preparing gradually for the wedding, with the date already fixed. Just the few people that are aware are excited and can’t wait for the day. Her family has been totally supportive as well. I’m not the richest guy in town, but my work gives me a decent amount to fend for myself and also a wife.
I never knew anything could go wrong with this engagement of ours until recently. I had been very busy working very hard at my place of work towards getting enough funds for the wedding and the future. So when I had enough of work, I decided to go visit my love, and spend some quality time with her, since I had been unable to do for such a long while. When she heard of my arrival, she ran out to meet me. We both were excited to see each other. The first thing I saw was how much weight she had added, I even joked about it too, that her cheeks were out and blossoming. I couldn’t imagine anything was wrong. As we sat discussing in the sitting room, she went to get me a glass of wine. As she placed the glass of wine on the stool before me, she suddenly became dizzy! I had to rush to keep her on her feet, and then get her sitting on the chair by my side. I got some water to sprinkle on her face, and then used the newspapers I brought to fan her as she was unconscious. She later came back to life. I was glad, and as I was about to help her adjust her sitting posture, she told me to be careful. I wondered why, until I saw her partially protruded belly. Her gown had hidden it quite well. I knew it immediately, she was pregnant. Not for me, but for who?
“Are you pregnant?” I asked, with rage, a desperate need to understand, unbelief and hope at the same time. I then saw the tears form in her eyes before me, she tried to speak, but words failed her. She nodded her head in agreement. “For who?” I asked. She couldn’t respond, as she started sobbing uncontrollably. “Do you know what this would do to us? Our plans? Our life? All the sacrifices we’ve made? Our reputation? My reputation?” I asked. “Why didn’t you confide in me and tell me the moment this happened?” All I got was a teary, red eyed fiancée muttering some words I couldn’t make sense of. How many months old is the pregnancy? “3 months” she mumbled. My mouth was left open at that response.. She was practically quiet about this for 3 months?? I knew at that very moment when I walked out of the door that I needed to make a choice and fast too.. It was totally unbelievable, the contrast of her character and the current reality of the pregnancy… Sooner than later, I must make a choice…
Well, this is a true story. What’s the best choice you think this young man can make at this moment? If it was you in this situation, what choice would you make, what step would you take? What lessons did you learn from this? I would love to see your comments 🙂
